Thurs 19 February @ 5.30pm - 7.30pm

Essential questions to ask yourself to check that your Primary child is on track.

The primary years are often a tricky period to get right with children, as they are often becoming both more and less mature, their emotions are a little more up and down the older they get, and their interests and personality might seem to change… from day to day! So how can you get through this period of change with positivity and success, and ensure that everyone still likes each other at the conclusion?

Clinical Psychologist, Dr Judith Locke, is returning to offer this follow up session to parents of primary students. In this session, Judith will use latest research and clinical experience to show practical, positive, and effective strategies parents can use to check on their child’s progress and help their child successfully get through the developmental changes of these different ages and stages while maintaining family harmony.

**This is a Parent Only session, and a student disco will be on at the same time for Prep to Stage 3 students.

Head of Community & Wellbeing, Springwood Junior School - Andy Marshall

This week in the Junior School we gathered to recognise our Year 6 cohort and formally inducted our Year 6 Captains for 2026, marking an important milestone in their final year of primary school.

While we celebrated those stepping into official leadership roles, this moment was about more than just our Captains. As the oldest students in the Junior School, every Year 6 student was also acknowledged and now carries influence and responsibility. Our younger students look to them, and the way they speak, act and serve helps shape the culture of our community.

Students were reminded that leadership is not defined by a badge, but by everyday choices such as showing kindness, taking responsibility and contributing positively to school life. We have already seen these qualities evident across the Year 6 cohort.

In addition, this week has been an exciting one as our clubs have commenced with great enthusiasm, engagement and energy. If you have any questions regarding clubs, please reach out to your child’s classroom teacher.

Update from Acting Head of Performing Arts, Kerryn Vezos

It is so heartwarming to walk around our school and hear the Bands and Ensembles playing, and students singing.  Our Strings played beautifully this morning, and our Voices Choir - although small - learnt almost an entire song on Tuesday. Percussion Ensemble are playing some inventive pieces, and Guitar Ensemble are already planning a visit to Yurana in the near future.  Senior Concert Band are loving making musical noise every Thursday lunch time - Music brings joy to the soul!

Voices Choir is now Tuesday morning.  If you come along, you'll find out what a Ping Pong Ball, a Cat and a Mountain have in common!

Our newest Ensemble, Hand Bells - will be rehearsing Thursday second break.  If you are keen to join, please come along on Thursday to the music room - it is going to be super fun!
