Mr Dino Arraiol - Head of School Community and Wellbeing MSS
Dear Parents and Carers,
As we approach the holiday period, we encourage families to consider what true rest looks like for children. While downtime is important after a busy term, this can often become extended periods on screens. Excessive screen use—particularly gaming and social media—can impact sleep, mood, and overall wellbeing. It also increases the risk of unkind online interactions and potential cyberbullying, which children may find difficult to navigate independently. As a College, we typically see an increase in negative online interactions over holiday periods.
We encourage parents to have honest conversations and actively monitor their child’s screen time. Judith Locke, author of The Bonsai Student, highlights that holidays are an important opportunity for children to experience genuine rest through outdoor play, creativity, reading, family connection, and developing independence.
Tools such as Qustodio can assist families in setting clear boundaries around screen use. Maintaining open conversations about online behaviour is equally important. Our hope is that students return next term not only rested, but refreshed, connected, and ready to learn.
Update from the Principal
The College Leadership Team (ELT) continues to closely monitor the current global situation. At this stage, the College is operating as usual, and all activities and events, including those involving cross-campus travel, will proceed as planned.
Significant events discussed include:
Cross Country
ELT made the decision this morning to continue with Cross Country (first week of term) on the Carbrook campus (transporting our Springwood community) as we usually do. We are in conversation with Chris who will consult with his team about the Stage 2&3 Athletics Carnival which is late in Term 2.
Musical
ELT also decided that The Musical will go ahead with the usual transport arrangements in place for Springwood students to attend the Matinee Performance, as already planned.
Social Events
ELT agreed that the social events planned for students and their families on each campus will go ahead as planned.
With events unfolding across the globe, should any changes be required, we will communicate with families as promptly as possible.

Parent Teacher Student Interviews (PTSI)
Our PTSI are scheduled for Tuesday 28 April (second week of next term). The booking link to interviews will be made available next week and remain open until Sunday 26 April. Interviews can be easily booked on the College App, under the Parent Teacher Interviews button on the main page.
By the end of term you will find a range of results and feedback available on Parent Lounge related to how your child is progressing in each of their subjects. To access this information via the app, follow these steps:
- Click on the hamburger menu at the top left, scroll down and choose Parent Lounge.
- In Parent Lounge select the Student Details tab (second option horizontal heading), and select Curricular Activities.
It is worth reviewing your child’s progress on a termly basis and reaching out to teachers if you are concerned about how your child is travelling in a particular subject area.
Uniform Expectations – Term 2 Reminder
On the first day of Term 2 students will be required to wear the uniform required for their timetabled classes. And as we move into the cooler months, we ask for your support in ensuring students remain both warm and in correct uniform by ensuring that:
- Students wearing skirts or culottes may wear black footed tights, without socks.
- The black College jacket may be worn with both sport and formal uniform. Please note that the older purple jumpers have now been discontinued.
For further details on uniform requirements please visit the College website using the following link: https://calvarycc.qld.edu.au/parent-information and click on the uniforms tile.
ANZAC Day Service - Friday 24 April
On Friday 24 April 2026, Calvary Christian College will host its annual ANZAC Day Service on the ANZAC lawns, commencing at 10:15am. Students from Stages 2–6 will attend, accompanied by staff, as we come together to honour and remember those who gave their lives in service for the freedoms we enjoy today. Parents and carers are welcome to join us for this commemorative event.
ANZAC Day March - Saturday 25 April
ANZAC Day is a special day for reflecting on the bravery and leadership of those who serve and protect our country, past and present. Calvary Junior Schools (and MSS siblings are welcome as well), are promoting attendance at the Springwood ANZAC march on Saturday 25 April 2026.
We are formally asking members of our student leadership team; Year 6 Captains and Prefects as well as College Leaders to attend. Year 6 Captains will be carrying wreaths and our school banner as we all march together down Cinderella Drive to the ANZAC stone in the park for the service, which commences at 8:20am.
All attendees will gather at the Community Centre by 7:15am for the march, which begins at 7:45am. Students should wear their full formal uniform, including formal hat for this event. The specific details of the event are:

Term 2 Consent Talks
On Tuesday 28 April 2026, our male and female students will attend separate, age-appropriate consent talks during school hours, presented by Daniel Principe and Emma Tabacaru. Both presenters have extensive experience working with young people on sensitive topics and approach these discussions from a Christian perspective, supporting students to make informed and wise choices.
