The Middle Senior School Pastoral focus is on assisting students to develop empathy as a foundational social skill that supports lifelong wellbeing. As Judith Locke highlights in her books The Bonsai Child and Raising Anxiety, children flourish when they are guided to understand others’ perspectives and manage their own emotions—rather than being shielded from discomfort. Developing empathy helps students build resilience, as they learn to navigate challenges with compassion and confidence. It also strengthens relationships, fostering deeper connections with peers, teachers, and family. These healthy and supportive relationships are strongly linked to increased happiness and emotional stability. By encouraging empathy at home and school, we equip our children with the tools to thrive socially and emotionally, now and into adulthood.

Qustodio parent app:

Following on from our parent discussions with Judith Locke, a number of parents have inquired about the Qustodio app. This app is available for parents to download and assists in monitoring and managing their children's use of College laptops outside of school hours, as well as one additional smart device. This includes setting restrictions of the types of websites or apps children are accessing and providing screen time limits.

Book Week

Book Week is taking place from 16–22 August, with various activities scheduled during second break in the Library throughout the week. The celebration will culminate in our annual Book Week Dress-Up Parade.

Students are encouraged to dress up as an appropriate book character on 22 August and, where possible, bring the book that relates to their character. House points will be awarded to students who participate.

Police Visits on Site

The College was recently contacted by the Logan Police Department about a new initiative that they will be implementing in Term 3 and possibly extending into Term 4. The initiative will involve Police parking onsite at various schools or colleges in the area and engaging with P-plate and L-plate drivers by performing randomised licence inspections and breathalyser tests in a controlled, safe, and familiar setting.

The College is supporting this initiative as a means of providing our students with an educational experience aimed at gaining valuable real-life experience to prepare them for future interactions with the Police. We have informed our Middle and Senior School students about this initiative, aimed at educating young drivers, during assembly this week.
