A note from the Head of Middle and Senior School (Mr Wilson)

Dear Parents and Carers

Just a reminder that tomorrow, Friday 30 August, is a state wide pupil free day to facilitate teachers across Queensland who are involved in moderation of Year 12 assessment work. Calvary has a significant number of senior school teachers who hold roles for the QCAA as confirmers (those roles check student assessment across the state) and endorsers (those roles approve assessment tasks). The involvement of our staff in these initiatives ensures that we have a highly competent senior teaching team who can provide thoughtful lessons and feedback to students who are striving to achieve high ATAR results.

Next week the College will embark on Good News Week and there is a special communication below from the Lead Pastor of RLCC Adam Low explaining how this week works:

“Every year at Calvary we take a week to celebrate and focus on prayer, mission, and the Good News of Jesus Christ. Next week is “The Good News Week.” While we could say that every week at Calvary is “The Good News Week” – taking a week to engage more deeply with the Good News Jesus offers, how we are simultaneously recipients of this good news, and invited to be participants in sharing it is a wonderful and empowering opportunity for staff, students and families.

Our chaplaincy team have worked with staff and students to provide opportunities to celebrate how we receive and personally respond to the good news of real life in Jesus Christ, and also BE and BRING this good news to others in our world. Activities will include an interactive prayer room, Reggie Dabbs visiting, sausage sizzle / bake sales to raise funds for Compassion, a good news stories wall display, an ‘agent of good news’ challenge across the week, and more. You are invited to celebrate “The Good News Week” with us!

Colour Fun Run (Optional)

Colour Fun Run is one of the options students can be involved in on Friday 13 September. There will be a set up path that the students will be running or walking around. The more times they pass the colour zone the more colourful they become with explosions of colour.

Students participating will need a plain white T-shirt that they can change into for this event. It is recommended that all other clothes worn for free dress day are able to be sprayed with the colour chalk, it is washable, however we want to protect clothing and shoes.

This year the fundraising will be going towards sporting equipment for your children to use and updating sports teams’ uniforms.

Let’s celebrate the end of term with a rainbow of excitement and COLOUR!
