Dear Parents and Carers

We officially opened our Beach Sporting Arena on Wednesday and it has been delightful to see students eagerly swarm to use that space during their break times. I am sure that the area will be well loved by students and I apologise in advance for the sand that may start finding its way back into your home in school shoes and uniform.

There are several important notices below from Mr Arraiol, our Head of Wellbeing and Community that I would encourage you to read.

Vaping Concerns

Research shows that there has been a worrying increase in the experimentation and usage of vapes among young individuals as young as 12 years of age. The College understands the importance of working with parents in safeguarding our children's well-being and guiding them toward making wise choices. That's why we are pleased to inform you about the University of Newcastle Australia's new text-based initiative. This initiative aims to empower students to make informed decisions and educate them about the risks associated with vaping. If you want to learn more about this initiative and how it can benefit your child's well-being, please refer to the information document provided below.

Student Presentations

Due to unforeseen circumstances, we have had to postpone the Safe on Social Presentations that were originally scheduled for today. The new dates for these presentations will be communicated in next week's Parent Communications.

Tomorrow the Queensland Police will be providing our students with valuable strategies for the wise and safe use of social media, the internet, and gaming. We highly encourage all parents to actively engage with their children in discussing what they have learned. While many claim to be familiar with these topics, we have experienced incidences where students fail frequently to put these principles into action.

For example, if your child has a social media account, we recommend asking them whether they have set their account to private (allowing only their friends to view it) or public (allowing anyone to view their content or profile). To support your discussions with your child, you can find more information in the following link provided by the Queensland Police:

Hygiene Product Collection

We wish to extend a very big thank you to our Calvary Community for the wonderful support shown towards our previous Hygiene Collection for Fisher's of Men. We were able to use all the materials provided to assist Fisher's of Men to help homeless individuals in the Logan region to take better care of themselves and their loved ones.

This Term we are collecting slightly different hygiene products (as illustrated in the poster below) for our farming community. The Year9 students are travelling to Chinchilla in the last week of school this term to be of service to the Chinchilla community and present our Hygiene Product collections to Drought Angels. Drought Angels will use these donations to create care packages for farmers that are hard at work producing food for us and may not have the time or resources to care for themselves.

Year 9 students will visit Form classes regularly to collect the donations that will "Help us Help the Farmer that Feed Us". We look forward to your ongoing support for this wonderful initiative.

Bush Dance

On Friday the 11th of August the College is hosting a Bush dance. Proceeds of this event will be going towards our Year 9 service trip to Chinchilla and more specifically Drought Angels. On the evening we have two sessions one for our Junior School Community from 6:30pm - 7:30pm and one for our Middle and Senior School Community from 7:40pm - 8:30pm.

If there are families with students across these sectors they are welcome to all attend a single session to enjoy the evening as a family. We are very fortunate to have the very experienced and enthusiastic Beefa's Bush Band performing and hosting this event for us. Please note that there will be food and drinks on sale and a photo booth on the night to take some memorable pictures of friends and family.

Father's Day Movie Night

On Friday the 25th of August the College is hosting an Outdoor Movie Night we are inviting families to join us to view the original Toy Story film. All proceeds from the evening will go towards supporting our Children of Compassion that each year level sponsors.

On the night we will have food and drinks for purchase and there will be fun and games for the whole family to enjoy before the movie begins. Although this event is titled as a Father's Day event we encourage the whole family to attend and enjoy the evening with us.

Please remember to bring your own picnic blanket or chairs to enjoy the movie with us.

Tutorials and Homework Hangouts

Please see the below link with the list of tutorial times and offerings at the College for students to engage with if they are needing eaxtra support with their academic work from our staff.

We're excited to introduce "Homework Hangouts" a new initiative led by our Senior School students (years 11 & 12) to support their Middle School Students with homework, assessments, and classwork. Middle School students can now meet with our Senior Students during second breaks on Mondays and Wednesdays in the LIC for additional academic help.
