Reflection from Mr Wilson

Dear Parents and Carers,

It was wonderful to be out and about amongst our high school students today at their Athletics Carnival. I would like to acknowledge the work of our Year 12 House Captains and their teams in continuing to foster an improvement in House Spirit and participation across our events.

Semester 2 uniform reminder

Just a reminder that School Locker has now reopened, and you should be able to go and try on uniform items that have been difficult to access. As we start Term 3, can I please encourage parents and carers to ensure:

  1. Student pants are of the correct length. Our green unisex sports pants should be worn close to the knee (if students put their hands at their sides, the length of the pants must be noticeably longer than the ends of their fingers [the arm test]). These pants are not designed to be rolled up high or worn as short shorts. Male and female students attending school next term with pants that are noticeably not the correct length will be sent home until they attend in the correct fitting uniform. It is worth noting that all College pants/skirts/culottes, etc., are designed to be worn close to the knee – if they are sitting mid-upper thigh they are the wrong length/size.
  2. Students have sourced the correct jumper for their uniform (the black jacket is for formal uniform only, the green and striped jacket is for sport uniform only).
  3. Upon return to school after the holiday break, we ask everyone to remember that hair is to be off the ears, off the collar, and at least 1cm above the eyebrows. Haircuts are also not permitted to be mullets or long on the top with short shaved sides. Students are welcome to tie up long hair to meet our guidelines for long hair.

Semester 1 reporting

Our teachers are busily organising end of semester reports which will be released near the start of the holiday break. This year we have added an interview request section for teachers – either ‘welcome’ or ‘needed’. All parents and carers are welcome to attend an interview and request feedback from teachers across the semester, however, if the teacher selects that an interview is ‘needed’, we would ask you to please prioritise making contact with that teacher to discuss your child’s progress in the subject.

Chinchilla Donations:

The Year 9 students are travelling to Chinchilla during the last week of school in Term 3 to serve the Chinchilla community and present our Hygiene Product collections to Drought Angels. Drought Angels will use these donations to create care packages for farmers who are hard at work producing food for us and may not have the time or resources to care for themselves. Year 9 students will visit Form classes regularly to collect the donations that will "Help us Help the Farmers that Feed Us". We ask that all Hygiene products (as listed below) be sent to school and High School students will collect these each morning starting from Monday 20 May 2024:

Arts Week and Eisteddfod

To celebrate all forms of performance and non-performance art at Calvary, we are hosting the annual Arts Week and Eisteddfod in Week 9. Arts Week consists of daily activities from various disciplines of the arts that students can participate in every lunchtime in the Cunningham Pavilion for house points. The activities are coordinated and managed by our prefect team in partnership with our staff to help students express themselves, earn house points, and enjoy some of the arts Calvary has to offer. Here is the list of events that you may want to encourage your child to attend:

  • Monday: Busking by Dr. Holley's music class
  • Tuesday: Limbo and Just Dance
  • Wednesday: Staff Caricature Competition and Art Exhibition
  • Thursday: Drama Sports

The last day of term will start with the Interhouse Beach Volleyball competition, followed by the Eisteddfod. The Eisteddfod consists of three major performance items:

  1. A showcase of singing and dancing talent in Calvary's Got Talent
  2. Battle of the Bands
  3. Interhouse Choir Competition

We look forward to a week full of creativity and expression and hope your child will participate and enjoy the various activities and events.
