Prep Fun Run, ANZAC Service, ANZAC Public Holiday & IS Sport
Dear Parents and Carers,
Here we are in the final week of term. I want to thank you for your continued support. We have had an exciting Term 1 and I am sure everyone is looking forward to a slower pace over the holiday break.
Easter Chapel
Easter Chapel was so special. Thank you for coming along if you were able. The story of Easter reinforces the significance of our faith. Pastor Jayden, Mrs Vezos, the Year 6 students, and choir, did a fantastic job sharing this with us through the message and praise and worship.
If you are looking for a place to celebrate Easter, Real Life Christian Church is holding its services over the Easter weekend.
Prep Fun Run - New Date
Unfortunately the rain put a pause on our Prep Fun Run on Monday. We are looking forward to this event now taking place on Monday 22 April, 2.00-3.00pm
Futsal - Metro Finals
Yesterday we had four teams out at the Brisbane Metro Futsal Finals. A number of the games were 'nail biters' with a few valiant returns from multiple points down to either win, draw or a close call. All of the teams did very well, in particular the Under 10yo girls who made it to the finals and came Runners Up.
Congratulations to all students who participated.
Crazy Hair Fundraiser
We are happy to announce that over $300 was raised for our Compassion children. Across the College, every year level sponsors a Compassion child. Mrs Lourens and the Missions Club students write letters to our sponsors and lead our fundraising events such as the free dress and funky hair day today. Service learning, stewardship, and leadership, are some of the many character qualities we see students develop in, as they participate in the mission and co-curricular activities of Calvary.
Year 6 Canberra Trip
On Tuesday 16 April, our Year 6 students from both campuses are flying to Canberra to experience first-hand, our nations capital. As well as exploring new and old Parliament House, we have an itinerary packed with visits to the War Memorial, Australian Mint, Mt Stromio Observatory, CSIRO, AIS and more. Please pray for the safety and wellbeing of all who attend. It is a stretching, memorable and exciting experience for our young people.
Uniform Update
As we come into the cooler weather, it is lovely to see the new black jacket being worn by some students. Just a reminder that the green sports jacket is to go with the sports uniform and the black jacket (or purple jumper for a limited time) is to be worn with the formal uniform.
Unfortunately, we have not received an update on when School Locker will be reopening. While School Locker is closed orders are 'online only' with free shipping. The College currently has a selection of the black jackets available for trying on purposes. Over the holiday period, the jackets can be tried on at the Carbrook Campus from 9am – 4pm.
Staffing Update
As many know, Mrs Waldren and Mrs Wong are looking forward to taking maternity leave in Term 2. Mrs Waldren is taking leave earlier in the term and we are grateful to Mrs Terracini and Mr Jorge for covering her class as she does so. Mrs Wong will take leave from the end of Term 2.
Mrs Barclay (Senai Barclay) has been on maternity leave and we thank Mrs Karunaratne (Sensai K) for continuing our Japanese program in her absence. Mrs Barclay will continue to spend time with her beautiful young family and will sadly not be returning to Calvary. A new staff member, Mrs Peel will be joining the team in Term 2 as our specialist Japanese teacher across both campuses for Prep – Stage 4. Mrs Peel has 18 years’ experience teaching Japanese at her previous school. I know our staff, parents and students will make her feel at home quickly.
Term 1/Easter Break
Congratulations everyone, on a fantastic Term 1. This term has brought with it our usual beginning of year excitement, and we are proud of the way the students have settled into their new classes and stages.
On behalf of myself and the Springwood team, enjoy a safe and restful Easter break.
Mrs Kim Winton
Head of Junior School - Springwood Campus
Sports/Clubs News
Congratulations to all of our teams for doing so well at yesterday's Metro Futsal Finals. Thank you to those who were able to come along and support the teams, and a big thank you to Miss Kendrick for your assistance.
Calvary Coffee Cup Competition
Students can collect the template for their Hand Drawn entries for this competition from the office or café at each campus. Parents, could you please assist in making sure the students artwork is protected and doesn’t get damaged when submitting.
Two Junior Schools winners (one per campus), and one Middle Senior Winner will receive a $50 Gift Card.
Artwork MUST be completed and submitted (with name and student number) to the office by Friday, end of Week 1, Term 2. Please ensure you have read the rules of participation. GOOD LUCK and we can't wait to see our students at work!

Easter School Holidays - OSHC
Please see below a link to the OSHC Vacation Care Program for the Term 1 School Holidays.
We have made it to Week 10 in the Performing Arts space. Lots of exciting things are happening next term and we are looking forward to this. The Performing Arts Team wishes all families a safe and blessed Easter and holiday period.
As the term ends, we farewell Mrs Esther McDonald and Mr John Ong as they conclude their time with the College. They have both been amazing contributors to the Performing Arts space and will be greatly missed by our community. We wish them all the very best in their future endeavours and we hope to see you around, particularly during the musical week.
Please encourage students to have their instruments and music at home over the holidays and to play them a few times during the break.
Junior Showcase and Recitals
On Friday 7 June 2024 we will be having a Junior Showcase and Recital Evening at the Carbrook Campus commencing at 6pm, with students arriving at 5.30pm. All students from both campuses in Junior and Intermediate Ensembles will be performing as well as all students doing private lessons within the College. Please add this to your Calendars. An email will come at the start of Term 2 outlining what students need to wear and bring.
