Dear Parents and Carers,
Good News Week!
If you haven’t heard, this week has been Good News Week, shining a spotlight on the Good News of the Gospel and shifting our focus to the good things happening in our world and in our lives. Pastor Jayden and our Year 6 leaders launched a week of fun and engaging activities for the students to be involved in. Their passion to build community and connection across all ages is inspiring. I am not sure who has enjoyed it more – the Year 6 leaders running activities or the younger students participating in them. It is definitely a win for everyone. As staff, we have been amazed at the way our student leaders have stepped into this space and, with Ps Jayden’s support, leading their peers with creativity and heart.
Safe on Social
The internet and the way we access it, such as iPads, smart phones, messaging apps, along with social media platforms have become a daily part of young people’s lives. It is transforming learning practices, the way friendships are built and maintained, how our children spend their leisure time and the way they socialise.
Yesterday our students in Stage 2 and 3 engaged in the Safe on Social presentation. Please chat with your child about what they learned. As much as we can, we hope to empower our students to feel safe online and always speak to a trusted adult if they every feel placed in an uncomfortable situation online.
To help direct your conversations at home, here are some key areas that were covered in the presentation yesterday;
- Online stranger danger and what grooming might look like and what to do
- Group Chats and strategies to manage them better
- Posting and sharing photos and the law
- Cyber-bullying, online harassment, and how to report it
- Online gaming safety
- Strategies to build resilience
Please see below links to some tips from our presenter for parents of school age children.

Olympics Unleashed
Evening with the Principal
If you missed the Springwood evening with our Principal and CEO, Mrs Cherylynne Gostelow, you are welcome to attend the Carbrook session tonight. This is a great opportunity to hear about future plans and vision for Calvary – including facility upgrades and uniform discussion. Evening with the Principal will be held in the Year 7 Classrooms, above the Stage 3 Learning Plaza at Carbrook, from 5.30pm tonight.
Bush Dance
Tomorrow evening the Carbrook Campus is hosting a bush dance from 6:30pm – 8:00pm. Proceeds of this event will be going towards our Year 9 service trip to Chinchilla and more specifically Drought Angels. We are very fortunate to have the very experienced and enthusiastic Beefa's Bush Band performing and hosting this event for us. Please note that there will be food and drinks on sale and a photo booth on the night to take some memorable pictures of friends and family.
Tickets can be purchased via this link: Bush Dance
Prep & Stage 1 Athletics Carnival
This coming Wednesday is our Prep – Year 2 Athletics Carnival. Parents, if you can join us, please wear comfy shoes, and be prepared to participate. It is always a lot of fun, with Mr McInnes and our Year 6 students running age -appropriate activities.
Book Week is approaching...
If you are like me, you will think of a costume at the last minute. Thankfully there are a lot of ‘easy’ to whip up character costumes on Pinterest and online. Our Book Week Character Parade is held on Wednesday 23 August from 9am in the church. This parade will replace our usual afternoon Assembly. Parents, you are welcome to come and even dress up yourselves if you want to join in the fun.
EKKA Holiday
Just a reminder that Calvary is in the Logan Municipality so we will be closed on Monday for the Logan Ekka Public Holiday and it will be school as normal on Wednesday, which is the Brisbane Ekka Holiday.
I hope you enjoy the long weekend.
