Dear Parents and Carers

Next week the College will embark on Good News Week and there is a special communication below from the Lead Pastor of RLCC Adam Low explaining how this week works:

“Every year at Calvary we take a week to celebrate and focus on prayer, mission, and the Good News of Jesus Christ. Next week is “The Good News Week.”

While we could say that every week at Calvary is “The Good News Week” – taking a week to engage more deeply with the Good News Jesus offers, how we are simultaneously recipients of this good news, and invited to be participants in sharing it is a wonderful and empowering opportunity for staff, students and families.

Our chaplaincy team have worked with staff and students to provide opportunities to celebrate how we receive and personally respond to the good news of real life in Jesus Christ, and also BE and BRING this good news to others in our world.

Activities will include an interactive prayer room, Reggie Dabbs visiting, sausage sizzle / bake sales to raise funds for Compassion, a good news stories wall display, an ‘agent of good news’ challenge across the week, and more. You are invited to celebrate “The Good News Week” with us!

Qld Education Pupil Free Day

Well tomorrow is a day off for students, and a day of learning for our staff. We love what we do, and tomorrow will be a day of professional development and team planning to ensure we are always forward focused.

Prep and Stage 1 Athletics Morning

Yesterday our Prep and Stage 1 students enjoyed a spectacular morning showcasing the athletics skills they have been working on in PE lessons this term. Not only were the athletic skills on point, but this served as an opportunity for our students to demonstrate and work on skills in resilience, team work and communication. I want to extend a huge thank you to Mr Brendon Linning for organising such a positive event and also to our year 6 leaders, who showed responsibility, motivation and initiative in the way they ran each of the events and cheered on our younger students.

Volleyball

Stage 2 and 3 students have competed in QLD volleyball cup today. It is encouraging to see the positive impact experienced by our students through their dedication to training and growing their skills as players.

All teams played excellently. There were 8 teams competing with students from Stage 2 & 3.

Yr 6 girls came 6th in Qld 6 a side division. Yr 6 boys  came 5th in Qld for 6 a side division and 4 a side division. Yr 4 boys placed 4th in Qld other teams 4 a side division.

South Coast Regional Trials

This week, students who qualified to represent the district in Athletic events, have competed at The Gold Coast Performance Centre at Runaway Bay. Congratulations to Marisela Hebson who competed in 100 and 200 metres and shotput, and Sidney O’Donnell who competed in Long Jump.

Showcase

There are a large number of students across the college enjoying the CAPA (Performing Arts) program. Earlier in the year we held our Junior Showcase for our younger students. Our senior Showcase event is on Saturday 7 September. The theme, Our Journey Through Time, is based on the history of the CAPA program over the past 40 years. Many of our Stage 2 and 3 students are involved either through the Voices choir or various ensemble groups. Come along and meet Alumni and past staff who contributed to growing CAPA, as well as hear the beautiful performances of our Stage 2-Stage 6 students.

Happy Father’s Day to all our dads and father figures! I hope you get to enjoy a great weekend, celebrated and honoured as you deserve.

If you would like to contribute donations of nut-free baked goods/lollies, please bring them to the Loft (Mike Millard building) on the Friday morning. Please also include a list of ingredients with anything you bring for allergy purposes.

Colour Fun Run Sept 2024

Colour Fun Run

Colour Fun Run is an exciting way to end the term at Calvary on Friday 13 September. This year, the Colour Fun Run will be held near the Calvary Community Centre field for the Junior School Classes at Carbrook. There will be a set up path that the children will be running or walking around. The more times they pass the colour zone the more colourful they become with explosions of colour.

Please send a plain white T-shirt that they can change into for this event. It is recommended that all other clothes worn for free dress day are able to be sprayed with the colour chalk, it is washable, however we want to protect clothing and shoes.

Times:

Prep & Stage1             9.30am

Stage 2                         10.00am

Stage 3                         11.30am

This year the fundraising will be going towards sporting equipment for your children to use and updating sports teams’ uniforms.

Let’s celebrate the end of term with a rainbow of excitement and COLOUR!
