Dear Parents and Carers

This week I have had the privilege of attending the Associated Christian Schools Leadership conference. I have been reminded again of the importance of our strategy, what matters most is the formation of character and faith.

On my return to school, I visited a class who were exploring the Psalms and one student proudly explained to me that he was exploring the Bible and he knew it was God’s word and God’s word is still true. It is encouraging to see this formation of character and faith in action in the classroom and as something that is experienced as relevant and true to our students.

Morning Drop Off

We have spent time in the last week reminding students of our process for arrival at school prior to 8.20am. If your child is dropped to school before 8.20am, they need to go directly to the Western Carpark, Gotfredsen Area (prep) or Pavilion and they need to keep their bag with them. At 8.20am a bell rings which signals that students can drop their bags and go to play. We ask that you follow this process and do not take your child to drop their bag at the classroom prior to 8.20am.

Beenleigh Eisteddfod

On Tuesday, our Voices choir travelled to the Beenleigh Eisteddfod to compete against other local schools. They placed second, which is an outstanding result and a testament to the hard work and commitment they have shown. Well done the Dr Gary Holley and the Voices students.

Chapel and Assembly

Each week on Friday between 9.00-9.30am we hold a Chapel or Assembly. All parents and friends are invited to attend these community services. Most weeks we host these in the CCC, however, this week we will have a special assembly at the Pavilion space due to the group photos that will be taking place.

Calvary Friendology Program

At Calvary we use the Friendology program as the foundation for our social & emotional teaching.  Friendology helps students understand common language and strategies to use when navigating friendships. Throughout the year, the counselling team deliver 8 sessions for each class, that covers topics such as:

Making friends

Friendship facts

Friend-o-meter

Friendship Fires

Mean on purpose behaviour

Tricky situations

Being kind and strong

As parents are also often coaching and guiding your children through social situations the counselling team will be running a parent session on Thursday 1st August at 9 am.  The session will cover Friendology concepts, language and strategies, and child development.

Morning tea will be provided and registration can be done through this link Friendology parent session - Carbrook

The NAPLAN data has arrived and is ready to be distributed to the students who completed these tests in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9. In early Week 4, students in these year levels will receive their NAPLAN data in a sealed envelope. If you would like to discuss your child’s results, please contact your child’s class teacher to arrange a suitable time. NAPLAN data constitutes one piece, out of a collection, of data that the College uses to make decisions around student learning.
