Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome to Term 2!
I hope you all had a relaxing and refreshing time over the Easter Break. We warmly welcomed 3 new students to the Calvary Community this term. We are pleased that they have settled in well and are enjoying school life.
STUDENT ID CARDS
Students have been issued with a new Student ID Card. In the Junior School these ID Cards are used to quickly scan students in, if they are late to school, and scan out, if students need to leave early. We encourage students to keep these in one of the smaller pockets of their school bags.
CO-CURRICULAR CLUBS
There are some changes to our clubs this term, please open the link below for details. Clubs will commence in Week 2.
CAMPS
Year 6 Canberra Trip
Next week, our Year 6 students are heading off on their annual Canberra trip. This adventure brings everything they have been learning about to life. It covers so much of the History, Science and Health curriculum in a hands-on way as they visit not only the old and new Parliament House, but QUESTACON, the AIS, the Royal Australian Mint, CSIRO, the War Memorial, and many other exciting places.
Year 5 Coolum Camp
On 15 – 17 May our Year 5 student will venture up to Luther Heights, Coolum, to take part in a program of team building activities and physical challenges as they test and explore their personal strengths and leadership skills. Please pray for all our staff and students taking part in camps this term.
ANZAC Day
This coming Monday, we are holding our school ANZAC service, beginning a 10.15am. Parents are most welcome to attend. This will be held on the Middle School Lawn.
ANZAC DAY 25 April - Springwood Service
We encourage all our Junior School families to participate in the local Springwood ANZAC march that is on ANZAC morning. This is a tradition for Calvary, students arrive dressed in their full formal uniform, including their hat, and as a whole College, we march in the ANZAC parade along Cinderella Drive.
Students of all year levels, Prep – Year 12 are invited to take part. We form up at Logan East Community and Neighbourhood Centre, Cinderella Drive at 7:15am. The march steps off at 7:45am to Springwood Park and the ANZAC Day Service will commence at Springwood Park at 8:30am. View on map
Student Leadership
During Semester 1 each year, students in Years 3-6 can apply for College Leader. Any students in Years 3 – 6 who have shown that they lead by improving the lives of others at the College through continuous and ongoing service, can apply to be a College Leader.
Applications for College Leadership can be made in Term 2 through a letter to the Head of School.
- Outline the Leadership Initiative/Service student is involved in
- Outline of the timeframe (weekly, daily, fortnightly) of this service
- Demonstrate on ongoing commitment to this initiative or service (minimum of a term)
- Outline of how this serves and contributes to the Calvary Community
Student Daily Medication Needs
The Health Hub can be contacted via email at HealthHub@calvarycc.qld.edu.au. Please utilise this email address if you need to advise of any daily medication changes or for messages for the College Nurse.
UNIFORM
We are aware of the Junior School fleece jumper shortage at The School Locker. They have communicated that new stock should arrive in the coming weeks.
As the weather is turning cooler, there are a few options for parents to choose from as an alternative until stock arrives and you can get the Calvary green fleece jumper.
- Both Carbrook and Springwood campuses have limited stock of second-hand jumpers on site, available for $5 at reception
- Calvary Buy Swap and Sell is our parent -run second hand uniform Facebook group and you may find what you need there
- Students who do not have a green Calvary jumper may wear a free dress jumper that aligns as closely as possible with Calvary uniform green colour.
Apologies for any inconvenience you may have experienced during this time.
MUSICAL UPDATE
We have made an adjustment to the school day rehearsal that originally fell on 31 May. This rehearsal has been moved to Tuesday 30 May to avoid any other calendar clashes.
The musical is coming together so well. It will be exciting to see the final performances. If you haven’t already booked tickets, please do so as seats are filling up quickly.
